Profile Picture

Marco V. Martinez was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. He went to Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where he double-majored in Biology and Mathematics. Marco was a Graduate Research Assistant at the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS). Marco graduated with a doctorate in Mathematics and a masters in Statistics in August of 2013. Marco’s principal research interest is to use mathematical and statistical tools to answer theoretical questions that develop strategies to preserve biodiversity.  He was a 2013-2014 Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) fellow. He is a member of the Mathematical Association of America committee on Minority Participation in Mathematics.  He became very involved with the Actuarial Science program since his arrival at North Central College. He supported his students to create the Actuarial Science Club in 2014, and the Gamma Iota Sigma, Gamma Epsilon Chapter in 2018. He was named Coordinator of the Actuarial Science Program in 2016 and is currently working towards his credentials from the Society of Actuaries.  In 2016, he was honored with the Clarence F. Dissinger Award for his distinguished teaching and mentoring by a junior faculty member.
