Charles Dailey

Class Year: 1943
Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1978

Chuck Dailey is the former chairman of the department of physical education for men at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., and has been known as the “ambassador with a basketball.” Over the years, Dailey has received many awards and was decorated with the Royal Thai Crown by the king of Thailand for outstanding service to the people of that country. He also received an honorary doctoral degree from the National College of Physical Education in Thailand. Dailey worked through the U.S. Department of State as an American sports specialist during five different tours of duty. He taught basketball in Singapore, Sarawak, Brunei and North Borneo in addition to his work in Thailand.

 


Daniel Ruge

Class Year: 1939
Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1978

A North Central College Life-Trustee since 1981, Daniel Ruge established himself as an outstanding neurosurgeon in the Midwest. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Harvey Cushing Society and is certified by the American Board of Neurosurgery. He was a professor of surgery at Northwestern University and was deputy director for Spinal Cord Injury Service at the Veterans Administration Central Office in Washington, D.C. Prior to assuming his position in Washington in 1976, Ruge maintained a private practice in Chicago and was senior attending surgeon at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital and attending neurosurgeon at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Ruge has demonstrated a special interest in North Central College for many years. Since 1961, he has served on the Board of Trustees and was director of the Alumni Association. He has had several medical papers published and is the author of “Spinal Cord Injuries” and “Spinal Disorders: Diagnosis and Treatment.” Ruge was also the White House physician during the Reagan Administration.

 


Clair Schroeder

Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1978

Clair Schroeder held a variety of leadership positions at numerous colleges, churches and community organizations across the United States. He also served his alma mater as a member of the Alumni Board and class representative.

His wife Lucille Erffmeyer Schroeder, also an Outstanding Alumni Award Recipient, served in many leadership positions for a variety of women’s groups. She was also listed in the following Who’s Who publications: Two Thousand Women of Achievement, 1972; Who’s Who of American Women, 1972-83; The World’s Who’s Who of Women, 1973; Who’s Who in the Midwest, 1972-73; and the Dictionary of International Biography, 1974.

 


Lucille Erffmeyer Schroeder

Class Year: 1936
Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1978

Lucille Erffmeyer Schroeder served in many leadership positions for a variety of women’s groups. She was also listed in the following Who’s Who publications: Two Thousand Women of Achievement, 1972; Who’s Who of American Women, 1972-83; The World’s Who’s Who of Women, 1973; Who’s Who in the Midwest, 1972-73; and the Dictionary of International Biography, 1974.

Her husband Clair Schroeder, also an Outstanding Alumni Award Recipient, held a variety of leadership positions at numerous colleges, churches and community organizations across the United States. He also served his alma mater as a member of the Alumni Board and class representative.
