Welcome to the Writing Center

Staffed by advanced students, the Writing Center is an excellent resource for students at all levels of writing.  Consultations are free and offered in-person or online. Tutorials can happen at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming a topic to final revision. You can make an appointment to visit online or in person, or you can walk into the Oesterle Library, Room 242, without an appointment. The Writing Center will be open Mondays-Thursdays from 10 am-4 pm and 6-9 pm and Sundays from 4 pm-6 pm.

What we offer

In a supportive environment, our tutors emphasize writing as a process in one-on-one sessions. We encourage writers to visit early and often during the drafting process so that our tutors can assist in:

  • Brainstorming topics
  • Research
  • Outlining and organization
  • Argumentation and evidence
  • Thesis statements and topic sentences
  • Integrating citations
  • Developing introductions & conclusions
  • Citations
  • Clarity

Appointments are available during center hours and can be scheduled online.

Students will need to use their @noctrl.edu email to register for an account with Cardinal Support Services. Scheduling appointments early is strongly recommended to ensure there is ample time to collaborate and discuss your work. Walk-ins are permitted for in-person tutorial should a tutor be available. Students should be prepared with the assignment sheet, any drafting they have done, and their questions. No prior drafting is required; we are happy to brainstorm together.

About our tutors

Our gifted tutors are trained and delighted to help with any and all writing assignments. They major in a variety of subjects and offer a fresh perspective on assignments students bring to the Center.

What our tutors are saying...

“I love hearing about new classes and academic conversations. My favorite part of meeting students is hearing all about the fascinating topics they were exposed to in class that they chose to research. My best sessions are the ones where I feel like the student taught me just as much about their topic as I taught them about writing!”

"As a lover of reading and writing, I love helping students think of new and exciting ways to look at the problem they’re facing. I think of it as helping them build their tool box.”

My favorite thing about tutoring is seeing a client become relieved of the stress they came in with about a given assignment and watching them build confidence with their work in a session.”
