North Central College Jazz Studies Coordinator Juan Pastor celebrates the release of “Memorias,” the fifth album with his ensemble Chinchano. Blending Afro-Peruvian rhythms, Andean influences, and contemporary jazz, “Memorias” is Pastor’s most personal and mature work to date – honoring family, tradition, and identity through song. Featuring pianist Stu Mindeman, bassist Matt Ulery, and saxophonist Dustin Laurenzi, the band delivers a powerful mix of lyrical melodies, rich textures, and high-energy improvisation. From the evocative “Celinda,” dedicated to Pastor’s grandmother, to the festive “Qué Frío,” “Memorias” captures both reflection and celebration.
