Immunizations and Health Insurance for International Students

Immunization Requirements

All new students are required to complete the Immunization Form. No physical exam is required to attend North Central College. If the immunization information is not complete, a medical hold will be placed on your account two weeks after the first day of classes of your starting term. This means that you cannot add a class or register for the next semester.

Illinois State Law mandates that all students entering a post-secondary institution, born after 1956, must provide proof of immunizations.

Health Insurance

Why is health insurance important in the US?

Healthcare in the United States can be very expensive, which may put international students at financial risk if they become sick or injured. Requiring all international students to enroll in the school-sponsored health insurance plan from ISO helps cover these costs and reduces the chance that health issues will interfere with their studies. North Central College is committed to ensuring our students are best set up for success, both academically and in overall health and wellness.

Health Insurance for F-1 International Students

All F-1 international students are required to hold health insurance during identified terms while completing their studies at North Central College; rates start at only $115 per month. Insurance should be purchased prior to arrival, and students will be asked to provide proof of purchase for the entire upcoming semester along with health insurance enrollment documentation at International Student Orientation. Coverage should coincide with the duration of a student's academic program. Students will be asked to provide proof of health insurance every semester.

Required Coverage Periods

Coverage dates:

  • Fall 2026: 8/1/2026 to 12/31/2026
  • Spring 2027: 1/1/2027 to 5/31/2027
  • Summer 2027: 6/1/2027 to 7/31/2027

Waiver/Opt-Out Exceptions

While all international students must be enrolled in health insurance during their academic career at North Central College, students that meet or exceed the waiver eligibility requirements may be eligible for a waiver to hold a plan other than the school sponsored plan offered by ISO. The waiver and plan will be reviewed by the Center for Global Education.
