North Central College is offering a free summer webinar series centered on the COVID-19 pandemic and the many ripple effects it has in our lives and throughout our communities, as well as within a broader cultural and historical context. North Central faculty from 13 academic programs will offer a total of 17 informative sessions in their areas of expertise, many of which will include live Q&A sessions with the professors.
June 19, or Juneteenth, is a day that is commemorated annually as the end of slavery in the United States. It was on this day in 1865 that Union General Gordon Granger led federal troops to Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Many among our community may be unfamiliar with Juneteenth and its significance to our nation’s history and to the Black community and we want to help change that.
