Brian Glibkowski discussed leadership lessons one can gain from Star Wars
May 4 is known as Star Wars Day. Many never imagined they could learn anything about leadership from Star Wars and the other movies in the legendary sci-fi series, but actually they offer some insight that is eerily pertinent to these tumultuous times.
Brian Glibkowski, associate professor of management at North Central College, was quoted in Forbes, where he shared a powerful business lesson that can be gleaned from Star Wars.
In The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker asks Rey what she sees. Her reply is: “Light. Darkness. A balance.”
“The truth is, leadership is all about balance,” said Glibkowski. “Inspire, but also hold people accountable. Focus on production, but also on production capability. Promote work-life balance. Leadership is about yin and yang, but ineffective leaders often emphasize one aspect of it over another.”
