North Central College has launched a new podcast: 1861: The North Central College Podcast. Produced by the College’s Office of Institutional Communication, new episodes will air monthly and feature in-depth conversations with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community partners – all centered on the North Central College experience. The title pays homage to the year that North Central College was founded.
“With countless great stories to tell across the Cardinal community, a regular podcast is a logical extension of our work, and an opportunity for us to delve deeper into the details than we typically can through the College’s other communication channels,” said Jim Godo, vice president for communication and external affairs. “A liberal arts education – like the one students explore here at North Central – is about examining diverse perspectives, asking questions, and engaging in dialogue, and that’s exactly what we’ll aim to do with the podcast.”
The inaugural episode is currently live, and features recent graduate Olivia Rosenberg, a member of the Class of 2025, who double majored in communication studies and sociology and is embarking on a new career at an advertising firm in Chicago. Rosenberg tells the story of her decision to transfer to North Central from Big Ten institution after her first year of college, and she offers advice for high school students going through the college search process. She also highlights North Central faculty members who encouraged and supported her throughout her college journey, her senior thesis exploring female executives in the workplace, and what it was like to fulfill her dream of performing on stage with an a cappella group.
Current and future episodes will be available on the College website (northcentralcollege.edu/podcast), Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
“Whether current or prospective students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the College, our goal is that each episode have something for everyone,” said Godo. “We want to share a bird’s eye view of what makes North Central College so special, and to shine a light on the amazing individuals and unique stories that make up the fabric of the Cardinal community.”
