Cardinal First Program

Apr 13, 2026

The Cardinal First program continues to create meaningful opportunities for first-generation students to connect, learn, and celebrate their achievements.

On March 1, we hosted our signature biennial event, the Cardinal First Alumni Academy. This year’s program brought together 75 first-gen alumni who returned to campus to serve as presenters, panelists, and mentors for the 135 current students who said "yes" to this opportunity. Through sessions on career pathways, navigating workplace dynamics, and building professional networks, students gained practical insights while forming valuable connections with alumni who once shared similar experiences. The Friday evening event reflected the strength of the Cardinal First community and the powerful impact of peer mentorship.  Attendees also received a list of 275+ first-gen alumni willing to connect with event attendees via LinkedIn.

On April 16, 111 students, 3 alumni and 9 faculty/staff were inducted into the Tri-Alpha National First-generation Honor Society,  a national honor society recognizing the academic achievements, leadership, and perseverance of first-generation college students.

We will also honor our graduating seniors at the Cardinal First Graduation Recognition & Pinning Ceremony on May 1. This special event celebrates them achieving their goal of earning a college degree, and recognizes the support of families and supporters who have been part of their journey.  All first-gen 2026 graduates invited to participate and RSVP needed by April 24.  Contact cardinalfirst@noctrl.edu with any questions.

Together, these programs highlight Cardinal First’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of belonging, academic success, and lifelong connection for first-generation students and their families.
