Get Ahead in Your Degree

If you plan to take only a few courses at North Central College, you may apply for at-large status. This category includes students who plan on transferring credit earned at North Central back to their home institution. It may also include students who already have their bachelor's or master's degree, but want to take more classes.

How to Apply:

1) Identify courses you would like to take.

  • Visit Merlin and click Search for Sections to find your course number and when courses are offered. When a prerequisite course is required for a course, an official transcript showing completed prerequisite course is required.

2) Complete the Non-Degree-Seeking application form.

  • Email the application to grad@noctrl.edu.
  • Once you are admitted as an at-large student, the graduate office will register you for the indicated course(s) on the application.
  • Visiting students are able to register for courses beginning 30 days out from the start of the semester.

3) Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions.

  • Official transcripts must be submitted to the School of Graduate and Professional Studies directly from the institution attended.
  • Official transcripts can be sent by mail or electronically from verified services. Hard copy transcripts hand-delivered by students will be accepted if received in an official sealed envelope from the institution.
  • Official transcripts can be sent electronically from verified services to grad@noctrl.edu or by mail to School of Graduate and Professional Studies 30 N. Brainard St. Naperville, IL  60540.

Previously admitted students
After submitting your application, students will be contacted by the School of Graduate and Professional Studies to schedule an appointment via Zoom or in person during business hours to register for courses. If the course you are registering for has prerequisites, you will be required to submit a copy of your transcript to show that you meet these prerequisites. Graduate courses require a copy of the transcript that indicates completion of a bachelor's degree. Registration is not complete until all fees are paid.
