Profile Picture

Jermaine Hill coordinates the musical theatre major and dance minor at North Central College. He teaches acting and musical theatre performance classes including Acting for the Musical Theatre Stage, Voice for the Actor, and Advanced Performance Styles, as well as serving as musical director for the all-College musicals, and faculty advisor for the senior-produced and directed capstone musical. He also teaches in the Interdisciplinary Studies program.

Originally from New York City, he received his Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College, and a Master of Music with Academic Honors from the New England Conservatory of Music. He enjoyed an active and diverse career as a performer on the operatic, concert and theatrical stages – having appeared at Carnegie Hall, Boston’s Jordan Hall, Chicago’s Symphony Hall, The Lost Colony (NC), and the Aldeburgh Festival in the U.K., among other venues – before devoting himself full-time to teaching, coaching and directing. He has since served as an orchestra, rehearsal and audition pianist, choral conductor, musical director, arranger, orchestrator, voice teacher and vocal coach around the world. He worked extensively in the cruise ship industry as a music director, vocal coach, arranger, orchestrator, and show creator, and his arrangements have been aired nationally on PBS and public radio, and continue to be performed internationally.

Prior to North Central, Jermaine was the Assistant Director of Purdue Musical Organizations at Purdue University. During his two-year tenure, he prepared, rehearsed, and traveled with six musical groups, culminating in nearly 200 performances around the country. He was also a Lecturer in musical theatre voice at North Central during the 2012 - 2013 academic year.

He maintains a roster of private clients, including Tony, Grammy and Drama Desk Award winner Heather Headley, continues to musically direct profesionally, and is on the Board of Directors for The Other Theatre Company. He is proudly represented by Gray Talent Group.
