Victoria VerHoven

Victoria VerHoven has been a member of the North Central College voice faculty since 1994. A soprano and experienced vocal pedagogue, she brings extensive experience as both a performer and teacher to her work with singers. She also serves on the applied voice faculty at Benedictine University and previously taught at Lewis University.

Ms. VerHoven earned a Master of Music degree with distinction in Vocal Pedagogy and a Bachelor of Music degree with distinction in Vocal Performance from Indiana University, where she also completed doctoral-level coursework in vocal pedagogy and served as a graduate assistant.

Her professional performing experience includes appearances with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Light Opera Works, Skylight Theatre, St. Louis MUNY, and numerous opera, operetta, musical theatre, and concert organizations. She has performed a wide variety of repertoire, an experience that continues to inform her practical approach to teaching.

Ms. VerHoven is a patient and enthusiastic teacher who is dedicated to helping singers develop both their vocal technique and their artistry. She works individually with each student to build a strong technical foundation while encouraging musical growth, confidence, and expressive communication. She believes strongly in giving singers opportunities to put their training into practice and encourages her students to participate in Opera Workshop, perform regularly, and pursue auditions and other performance opportunities.

In addition to her teaching, Ms. VerHoven has served as a professional vocal adjudicator for Illinois High School Association State Music Contests since 1995. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and Actors' Equity Association.
