Remembering Dr. Holly J. Humphrey ’79, Trustee and First Female Board Chair

Prominent North Central College alumna Holly J. Humphrey, MD, MACP, was elected to the College’s Board of Trustees in 2004. On January 1, 2023, she became the first woman to serve as chair of the North Central College Board of Trustees. Dr. Humphrey died on Thursday, April 17, 2025. The cause was pancreatic cancer, according to her husband, Dr. Duane Follman.

Remembering Legendary Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Al Carius H’06

Legendary North Central College cross country and track & field coach Allen B. “Al” Carius H’06 has passed away at the age of 83 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Carius, whose career at North Central spanned more than five decades, will be remembered for his “Run for Fun and Personal Bests” coaching philosophy that influenced countless student-athletes, fellow coaches, friends and colleagues, and resulted in dozens of national championship trophies.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, undergraduate students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.6 (4.0=A) for the term, be enrolled as full-time students and have no grades of incomplete or in progress. North Central College’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program recently earned accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). CAPTE is a national accrediting agency that grants accreditation to qualified entry-level education programs for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants, assuring the quality of education each student receives.
