I am an Assistant Professor of Marketing & Management in North Central College's School of Business and Entrepreneurship. My teaching philosophy is based on participative learning, which involves engaging students as active participants in the learning process. My method is to lead students down a path of sequential questions and answers so they progress from problem recognition to logical solutions. I seek active student discovery by complementing business theory with real-world examples that foster open discussion with in-depth analysis. This allows students to think critically and focus on truly understanding both the theory and industry application. The goal is to create a collaborative environment where students feel comfortable and empowered to share their thoughts and ideas. I believe in creating an engaging and stimulating learning atmosphere where students acquire the skills to be successful both inside and outside the classroom.

 

Over the last ten years, I have had the privilege to teach over 135 credit hours in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship at North Central College. I strongly believe in establishing rapport with students and building relationships based on mutual respect is a critical component of the learning process. It is my belief that a student’s true potential is achieved when they bridge the gap between academic theory and industry application. I put this into practice in my current teaching assignments by being responsive to student needs, understanding their current base of understanding, and challenging them to think critically. My approach in the classroom is to support students in building a solid foundation of theoretical framework, enhanced by practical application. I help students understand business theory by breaking down difficult and complex concepts so they are easier to understand. It is my belief that a solid base of business theory is essential in the learning process, but is limited without practical application. I provide students with current and relevant business examples with unique, real-world perspectives to aid in the practical application process.
