Dr. Woods is a former Princeton University football player who studied neuroscience and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in psychology. Returning to his home state of CA for graduate school, Dr. Woods earned a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of California Irvine's Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology. His thesis was titled "Somatotopic plasticity and activity-dependent gene regulation in adult monkey somatosensory cortex." Dr. Woods is the author of numerous journal articles as well as a chapter in The Handbook of Multisensory Processes (MIT Press 2004) titled "Cross-modal interactions evidenced by the ventriloquism effect in humans and monkeys."

An experienced educator, Dr. Woods was named a Hero in the Classroom in 2012 by the Chicago Bears and the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty at Triton College in 2016. In 2019, Dr. Woods was given the Excellence in Graduate Education award by Dominican University. In the Physician Assistant Studies program, he teaches Evidence-Based Medicine and Foundational Medical Science. His favorite teaching tools are the three Anatomage Virtual Cadaver Tables MSPAS has because they allow vast amounts of anatomy curriculum to be delivered efficiently, effectively, and enjoyably.
