John Stanley has been teaching at North Central College since 1999. During that time, he has received the Clarence F. Dissinger Award for distinguished teaching at the college and he has led the nationally ranked Forensics/Speech Team to multiple state and national championships. He is the 2014 recipient of the Dennis-Ross Outstanding Coaching Award, an award given out by the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensic Association to a coach whose feedback and critique of student competitors at other schools is considered outstanding in the field.
He coordinates a campus-wide event each fall to celebrate National Free Speech Week, a week long exhibit featuring important issues related to First Amendment rights. He was most recently published in the textbook, "The Presentation Guide Book: From the Classroom to the Boardroom." He often presents at the National Communication Association's annual conference including the upcoming conference where he is part of a panel titled, "Two Bottles of Beer on the Wall: The Importance of a Professional Mentor/Mentee Relationship in a College Setting." He dedicates his free time to volunteering and fundraising efforts for a variety of causes including Autism, Breast Cancer, and LGBTQ organizations.
