Excel Program (Domestic Applicants)

Is English not your first language? Are you a junior or senior in high school who has taken English Language Learning (ELL) or Dual Immersion classes? 

If you answered yes to either question, the Excel Program could be a great fit for you. This program lets you earn college credit as you refine your academic English skills during your first semester at North Central. 

Coursework Overview

The Excel Program consists of 12 elective credits in Listening & Speaking, Writing & Grammar, and Reading & Vocabulary. In addition, students have the option to take an additional 4 credits in another area of study that also count toward their degree. 

Students in the program will build the following skills:

  • research and academic writing
  • critical thinking 
  • presentation and academic discussion 
  • synthesizing and analyzing information
  • learning and applying academic vocabulary
  • reading and analyzing academic texts

Program Benefits

Participants in the Excel Program receive the preparation they need to succeed in their rigorous college coursework. Students can use their financial aid award to offset cost of attendance, participate in Division III athletics and fine arts programs, join clubs, while making friends with fellow multilingual students.

Excel Program students also have the option to take 4 credits of other general education or elective coursework, meaning they stay on track to graduate in four years

Scholarship Information

For the Excel Program, academic merit-based scholarships are awarded during the application review process and are based on grade point average (GPA). Your scholarship is immediately available while you take Excel Program classes.

Scholarships are renewable for four academic years provided you maintain the required GPA each year and maintain full-time undergraduate status. Merit scholarships are not based on need. Our Academic, Achievement, Dean, Honor, and Presidential merit scholarships range from $24,500 - $29,000 ($98,000-$116,000 over four years) per academic year. Your achievements and special talents in other academic and activity areas, like education and the fine arts, could result in additional scholarship opportunities
