Excel Program (International Applicants)

The Excel Program is academic English coursework for multilingual students that counts toward a North Central College undergraduate degree or could be transferred to another institution. Learn more about the program below. 

Excel Program

This one-semester program is designed for students on an F1 visa for undergraduate study. Students take 12 elective credits in Listening & Speaking, Writing & Grammar, and Reading & Vocabulary. Excel Program students also have the option to take 4 credits of other general education or elective coursework, meaning they stay on track to graduate in four years

Excel Program students build the following skills:

  • research and academic writing
  • critical thinking 
  • presentation and academic discussion 
  • synthesizing and analyzing information
  • learning and applying academic vocabulary
  • reading and analyzing academic texts

Participants in the Excel Program receive the preparation they need to succeed in their rigorous college coursework, with all the benefits of being fully enrolled at North Central College. Students can use their undergraduate scholarship award, participate in Division III athletics and fine arts programs, and join clubs while studying in the Excel program.

Intensive English Program

This program is designed for high beginning to high intermediate level students on an F1 visa for language training. Students will complete 20 hours of coursework per week in topics that include: Listening & Speaking, Reading & Vocabulary, Writing & Grammar, College & American Culture. These classes do not count for university credit. Students can participate in this program across one, two, or three semesters.
