Learning Behavior Specialist Endorsement
North Central College’s Learning Behavior Specialist Endorsement course sequence provides educators with advanced knowledge and skills to support students with a variety of low- and high-incidence disabilities. Completion of the following course sequence leads to eligibility for the State of Illinois LBS1 endorsement on an existing teaching license. Current State of Illinois teaching license is required. Candidates must have pre-existing transcript evidence of a cross-categorical methods of teaching children with disabilities course, and must pass ILTS #290.
The Learning Behavior Specialist Endorsement is three courses (nine credit hours):
- MEDU 532 - Characteristics of Students with Disabilities (5/6/24 – 6/10/24, Online synchronous class on Mondays, 5:00 - 7:30 pm; asynchronous work also required)
- MEDU 533 - Methods for Teaching Students with Disabilities (5/8/24 – 6/12/24, Online synchronous class on Wednesdays, 5:00 – 7:30 pm; asynchronous work also required)
- MEDU 534 - Diagnosis and Assessment of Students with Disabilities (6/26/24 – 7/31/24, Online synchronous class on Wednesdays, 5:00 – 7:30 pm; asynchronous work also required)
Courses must be completed in order; there is no field requirement.
How To Apply
- Download and complete the Non-Degree Student Application.
- Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions. Transcripts must show an earned bachelor's degree (if currently enrolled in a master's degree program) or a master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, and a minimum grade point average of 3.00 during the last 60 hours of a bachelor's degree or 3.00 for a master's degree program.
Official transcripts must be submitted to the School of Graduate and Professional Studies directly from the institution attended. Official transcripts can be sent by mail or electronically from verified services. Hard copy transcripts hand-delivered by students will be accepted if received in an official sealed envelope from the institution.
