Program Overview

Eligible participants must be at junior or senior level with a 3.0 GPA preferred.

With over 18,000 students, the University of Dundee is one of Scotland’s premier educational institutions offering world-class undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees. Sixteen percent of the university’s students are international, coming from more than 140 countries worldwide. For the past two years, the University of Dundee has been named Scottish University of the Year by the Sunday Times Good University Guide. Classes in humanities, social science, accounting, life sciences, engineering, physical sciences, geography, English, political science, business, psychology and fine arts are offered. Opportunities for psychology research are also available to students.

The university is located in Scotland’s fourth-largest city, overlooking the River Tay on Scotland’s east coast, with easy access to Glasgow and a short one-hour train ride to Edinburgh Airport. Compared to other Scottish cities, Dundee boasts more sunshine, lower rainfall and a warmer climate due to its sheltered location.

The R. Harper Brown scholarship through the Chicago Scots Organization, as well as £500 scholarships through BUTEX, a U.K. higher education membership organization, are available for students in this program.

Academics

Students earn 12-15 credits depending on courses selected. All grades earned abroad affect students North Central College GPA when transferred back. Students cannot take courses pass/fail.

When selecting courses to take at the University of Dundee, students should select a number of courses that equal a total of 60 credits. Sixty credits in Scotland (60 SCOTCAT credit points) is equal to 15 U.S. credits.

For example:

30 SCOTCAT credit points = 7.5 U.S. credits

20 SCOTCAT credit points = 5 U.S. credits

15 SCOTCAT credit points = 3.75 U.S. credits

10 SCOTCAT credit points - 2.5 U.S. credits

Note:  Students must have courses pre-approved by North Central College prior to taking them abroad. If students change their course schedules while abroad, they must get this change approved. Some departments only permit students to take a certain number of courses that count toward their major abroad; by getting all courses pre-approved, this ensures that these courses will count towards their degrees.
