Cardinal Career Launch: Student Highlight

Greg Williams, Class of 2021

Career Launch:

Greg Williams accepted a position as a news and sports reporter for Gannet | USA Today Network, one of the largest media companies in the country.

The North Central College advantage:

“North Central College has supported me throughout my time as a student and into my early career as a reporter. Professors in the communication and media studies department, along with WONC-FM 89.1 General Manager Zachary DeWitz '05, empowered me to do what I love and helped me get to where I am today. They encouraged me to become involved with our award-winning student newsmagazine and radio station: The Chronicle and WONC-FM 89.1.

“Through these organizations, I gained experience covering sports, news, entertainment and many other topics. These opportunities helped me realize the importance of local journalism and how much it means to the community.

“To complement my major in journalism and media communication, I minored in sports management. Not only does the sports management program teach the ‘business side’ of sports, but it prepares students for their careers after college. The faculty help their students create a network of connections with agents, athletes, coaches and local officials. I was able to build upon this network during my time working at the Pinal Central newspaper and eventually launch my current career at Gannett | USA Today.

“I truly believe I wouldn’t be where I am in my career without North Central College.”
