Cardinal Career Launch: Student Highlight

Jack Plewa, Class of 2021

Career Launch:

Jack is earning a master of science and studying microbiology and immunology at Montana State University-Bozeman to become an infectious disease researcher.

The North Central College advantage:

I would not be where I am today if it was not for North Central College. The biology department played a pivotal role in my success as a student and now as a scientist. The College’s faculty made research fun and exciting. I could not have done it without the help of my mentor Jonthan Visick, professor of biology, who introduced me to microbiology and fostered my love for bacteria. Working in his lab gave me a strong foundation and helped prepare me for my work in the microbiology and immunology lab at Montana State University.

“With my degree, I would like to work for the military conducting infectious disease research and medicine at either the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) or Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.”
