Profile Picture

Shannon Crabtree, MMS, PA-C (she/hers) has been a practicing PA for over 10 years. Originally from the Cleveland, OH area, she attended the University of Mount Union where she was a Presidential Scholar and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2011. She subsequently moved to Chicago where she earned her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in 2013 and was the Capstone Project Award Winner. After precepting PA, nurse practitioner, medical students and residents in the clinical setting, she joined the Northwestern University PA program faculty for 5 years where she developed a deeper appreciation for medical education, research, and mentoring PA students. She was the first PA to become a Searle Academic Fellow in teaching and learning in higher education at Northwestern University and was a member of the Feinberg Academy of Medical Educators. She was awarded the 2018 Don Pedersen Research Grant through the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) for her project, "Online Point-of-Care Ultrasound Training for Physician Assistant Students at Resource-Limited Institutions: A Pilot Study" and has guest lectured at many local, regional, and national conferences. She has been an active volunteer in her community through the Chicago Marathon and Texas Two-Step CPR training. Shannon has practiced clinically as a PA in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, and most recently Hematology/Oncology where she continues to care for patients. She views PA education as an opportunity to foster students' learning through real-world clinical application and new pedagogical approaches, building upon their own unique medical background and coaching them to become compassionate clinicians who provide high-quality, individualized, and empathetic care to their patients and communities. Outside of the clinic and the classroom she enjoys trying new restaurants, getting outdoors, and going on new adventures with her husband, two young daughters, and Beagle named Lola.
