A summer spent on groundbreaking research

Emmanuel Boadi Agyekum ’26 has wanted to be an engineer since he was a boy growing up in Ghana. In August 2022, he arrived in the U.S. to study electrical engineering at North Central College. The next summer, he got an exciting opportunity to work on research that could change the face of physics.

As a North Central sprinter Marcedes Jackson ‘22 M ‘24 has won conference championships, had top-10 finishes in the National Championship, and set a school record in the 60-meter event. Just as impressive, she has focused on improving her academic performance and encourages other students to keep working towards their goals.

Inspire Campaign

From our founding in 1861, North Central was one of the few colleges welcoming women students. With the inauguration of the college’s first woman president, Dr. Anita Thomas, a new effort has begun to acknowledge and give credit to the women in our lives who have provided inspiration. Inspire is just such an initiative to help celebrate the women who encourage, support and impact our lives.

Dr. Anita Thomas Installed as 11th President of North Central College

Dr. Anita Thomas was installed as president of North Central College at an investiture ceremony in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall on November 11, 2023. Thomas is just the 11th president in the 162-year history of the College and the first woman and first person of color to serve as president.

From the classroom to the Chicago Marathon finish line

Student, faculty, and alumni representatives from North Central College’s Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program served as part of a mobile triage team to respond to distressed runners after they finished the 2023 Chicago Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 8, which welcomed more than 47,000 participants.

Dakota Drew ’25 came to North Central from San Antonio, Texas, looking to pursue a degree as well as participate in ROTC and join the women’s wrestling team. She is majoring in criminology and sociology and receiving an Army ROTC Scholarship.

Corey Gustafik ’24 is a student-veteran whose service in the military helped inspire his career path now that he’s a civilian. As a health science major at North Central, he is an aspiring dietitian who hopes to continue serving others.
