My Experience Studying Engineering at an Illinois Liberal Arts College

Over the past three years, I have seen great things develop here at North Central College. From the moment I stepped foot on campus as a freshman I witnessed the construction of the Dr. Myron Wentz Science Center. What started as a hole in the ground in the middle of campus became home of the new engineering programs along with all of my fellow scientists, mathematicians and computer scientists at our liberal arts college. I am proud to say I welcomed the new engineering director, Dr. Frank Harwath, to our campus here in Illinois.

North Central College’s WONC-FM receives AP Best Spot News Award

On April 9, 2015, Russ Tanzillo ’15 and Josh Barlog ’16 were hosting their weekly radio show at WONC-FM 89.1 when they received an intense call from a fellow WONC staff member. They could not have imagined that this call would lead to a prestigious press award one year later. Sean McDermott ’16, a certified storm chaser, was on the line and following a twister in Rochelle, Ill. Sam Reiman ’16, the show’s producer, quickly set up the station to live broadcast the call from McDermott.

Professor selected for NEH institute

Esra Tasdelen, North Central College assistant professor of Arabic and Middle Eastern and North African Studies (MENA), has been selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar to attend the institute “What Is Gained in Translation? Learning How To Read Translated Literature.” In a highly competitive application process, Tasdelen was chosen to receive NEH funding to attend the institute at Kent State University in June.
