Program Overview

Eligible participants must be at junior or senior level with a 3.0 GPA preferred.

This program is designed for students seeking a minor in French at North Central College. French majors need to seek department approval before enrolling.

Located only one hour north of Paris and 35 minutes west of Brussels, Belgium, Lille is the ideal location to experience the vast cultures of France and Europe. With a population of over 233,000, Lille is a cultural capital of Europe that hosts 280 classified monuments and sites, six museums, 70 cinemas and 250 restaurants. Lille is a student-friendly city with over 100,000 students attending universities across the city, 29,000 of whom attend Université Catholique de Lille, which welcomes 6,000 international students every year.

Founded in 1875, Université Catholique de Lille is France’s largest private, nonprofit university. Students in this program earn academic credit from a variety of disciplines, including literature, history, culture, business, politics, economics, marketing and engineering. All classes are taught in English unless students have been approved by North Central College French faculty to take classes taught in French.

All students take two hours of French language per week. Language levels for students are determined by a French language test taken upon arrival at the university

Academics

Students are required to complete GLS 277 in the spring term prior to studying abroad in the fall.

Students earn 8-12 credits, depending on courses selected and length of stay. All grades earned abroad affect your North Central College GPA when transferred back. Students cannot take courses pass/fail.

Housing and Meals

Students live in self-catered residence halls on campus with other international students.

Meals:  Not included in program costs. Students prepare their own meals.

Estimated Costs

Students pay North Central College tuition and room and board to the host institution. A $30 non-refundable application fee is due at the time of application submission. Students are personally responsible for paying airfare, health insurance, departure tax, books, extra personal travel, and spending money, as these items are not included in room and board fees. North Central College financial aid does apply.
